My Story - How (and Why) I
Became a Naturopathic Doctor
by Dr. Pamela Frank, BSc (Hons),

I
was a type A, overachiever in high school, but by the
end of grade 13 (back in the old days we had a grade
13), I was burnt out. I had always had an interest
in medicine and so chose to train in medical
laboratory technology rather than commit to 4 years of
university. I worked in a hospital laboratory for
10 years and reached a dead end career-wise. The
next logical step seemed to be to pursue a medical
degree. I enrolled in university to complete my
undergrad and while there a friend encouraged me to see a
naturopathic doctor for my own health problems (badgered me
might be a better way to put it). I was resistant
to the idea - too entrenched in mainstream medicine and
convinced that natural medicine would not work for me if
the specialists hadn't.
He was persistent (thank you David) and I agreed to go
since I had insurance coverage for it anyway.
Within 3 months and with a few treatments, I was
permanently healed with no side effects and no long term
medication. I couldn't have been more astonished,
awestruck and converted. Instead of applying to
medical school, I finished my undergraduate degree and
then completed 4 years of naturopathic college, followed
by licensing exams and as they say the rest is history.
Naturopathic medicine is for me
the perfect blend of all the elements that I had always
been interested in: fitness, healthy eating, safe,
effective medicine and helping people.
